Not provided Qualifications Driver's License (Required) Associate or Bachelor's degree or equivalent (Preferred) CPR Certification (Preferred) Full Job Description The Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks, has one seasonal Lead Ranger Aide- Education position (no benefits) available at Snow Canyon State Park in Ivins, Utah.
This part-time appointment (32 hours/ week) will begin approximately mid-February and continue through late May.
Successful candidate may be invited to return for the fall '24-spring '25 season.
Housing is not provided.
Examples of Duties The person hired for this position will work directly with the Park Naturalist in the park's education and interpretation program.
They will spend most of their time guiding hikes and presenting lessons for local elementary school groups.
The lessons will support Utah Education Network core standards and use teaching strategies best suited to each age range.
As a secondary responsibility, the Lead Ranger Aide will guide interpretive hikes for the general public, develop social media posts, work in the visitor center, have the opportunity to develop programs that educate visitors about the park; and assist with other education programs and events.
Education:
Teach core-curriculum supporting and age-specific outdoor education lessons, guide hikes for children grades k - 12, and educate students on basic outdoor recreation concepts such as Leave No Trace principles.
Interpretation:
Develop and deliver formal programs and guided hikes; assist with social media posts; trailing roving; and assist the Park Naturalist during other public programs and events Other projects as assigned Job Requirements and Skills Ability to interact and communicate with park visitors including children Ability to work well with other staff members and volunteers.
Comfortable with public speaking and working with groups.
Comfortable with computers and data entry including Excel, Word, and other data processing programs.
Strong writing and organizational skills.
A competitive candidate will have either a history working in conservation/natural history-based interpretation or relevant education/training.
Other Applicant must be willing to work a Tuesday- Saturday schedule, including holidays.
Occasional evenings will be required for night programs, such as full moon hikes and star parties.
Working outdoors in exposed and variable weather conditions.
Working independently.
Working conditions will require some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities, and recurring lifting, conditions may also include working in extreme outdoor weather and in remote areas.
